Books to Dreams

The National Council of Catholic Women initiated the following program in 2003 to support reading: The NCCW Book Collection: Helping Children Read for Fun and Future. They encouraged Councils nationwide to participate in this program to promote reading in children. The Norwich Diocesan CCW partnered with Books to Dreams, a literacy program for children in need. Ms. Miriam Epstein the Director, started the program in 1996.  She and her volunteers have distributed well over 325,000 books since then. Ms. Epstein spends many hours sorting, labeling and preparing books for distribution to shelters, soup kitchens, correctional centers, Head Start programs, family outreach; where ever there is a need. She believes that all children should have their own books to read, with the hope that they will be motivated to develop and continue a good reading habit. There is a constant need for books, since the program distributes an average of 25,000 books a year. At the NDCCW Convention in 2011 attendees donated over 1,000 new children’s books. We continue to collect books for Books to Dreams..
